I have been in the health and wellness space for quite some time. Since I came back to the states from Tokyo in late 2011, I’ve been affiliated with a good amount of plant based brands in said space one way or another.
So with that said, I have seen protein bars come and go.
There is only one bar line I had ever truly loved, which boasted a reasonable, plant-based ingredient list, including adaptogenic superfoods, functional (that’s important) sugar, as well as protein.
Alas, that bar line was snatched away from me and reformulated into what basically amounted to a line of glorified candy bars long ago. :(
I had tried various other bars when necessary, of course, and had to settle for what I could get. But I could never get back to that one line of bars, with their ingredient ratio and their simple but effective ingredients. They didn’t taste like candy, but they were pretty good, and they were meant to serve a purpose, not just be a mindless snack.
So imagine my delight when I found Sakara Life’s line of Protein Super Bars, which featured pretty much the exact same ratio as my beloved previous bars, but with added benefits. They were tastier, too, and they had a bar for every need.

Then I got the news they were reformulating their bar line, and my heart sank. Would it be a candy bar situation all over again?
I needn’t have worried. This is Sakara, where achieving optimal health and vitality is part of their core purpose.

As mentioned above, my personal favorite out of the four bars will likely always be the Metabolism Super Bar, as I love anything dark chocolate and rich (without fruit; fruit with chocolate is a personal affront).
Out of the new bars I would have to say that I enjoyed the Beauty Protein Super Bar’s flavor the most. I loved the fruity, almost floral flavor of the previous Beauty bar, and it looks like they took that and improved upon it with the lemon poppy seed notes.
Whichever bar you choose, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve spent a good month and a half trying all of these bars out, and they are a marvel.
