Celebrate Lunar New Year in Style with Our Place's Year of the Rabbit Collection
Celebrate Lunar New Year in Style with Our Place
The Lunar New Year is a traditional holiday celebrated by many communities around the world. In addition to Asia, the Lunar New Year is also celebrated by many diaspora communities globally.
The Lunar New Year is based on a lunisolar agricultural calendar and typically falls between mid-January and mid-February. The exact date varies each year, but it typically falls between January 21 and February 20. The holiday marks the start of the new lunar year.
Traditionally, Lunar New Year is a time for families to gather and celebrate, with many customs and traditions associated with the holiday. These include (but are not limited to) decorating homes with red lanterns and banners, giving red envelopes filled with money to children, and eating traditional foods with names evoking luck and success such as dumplings, spring rolls, and glutinous rice cakes.
A few examples of dishes (helpfully provided by my best friend), which all have names evoking luck, success, and the like:
The Lunar New Year is also a time for forgiveness and starting anew.
People usually clean and tidy their house before New Year's Day to sweep away the bad luck of the previous year and make way for good luck in the new year. Some families dress in new clothes and make sure to settle any debts and disputes with friends, family, and neighbors.
This is also a time for children and adults to enjoy traditional activities such as lion and dragon dances, fireworks, and parades.
These celebrations are not only a way to honor ancestors and bring good luck but also a way to keep cultural traditions alive.
And what better way to do that than with Our Place's limited edition Year of the Rabbit Collection, part of their Traditionware™ line. This collection was designed to celebrate, honor, and tell the stories of people’s traditions, and it's the perfect addition to a Lunar New Year table.
The collection includes four Rice Bowls, four matching bamboo Chopsticks, and four stoneware Chopstick Rests, each designed by artist Vanilla Chi.
The rice bowls are made from high-quality stoneware and glazed by hand, so no two are alike. They are designed with a pedestal, making them easy to hold and the perfect size for rice and soup. The bowls are also stackable, making them easy to store.
The chopsticks are also designed by Vanilla Chi, featuring a decal wrapped bamboo with a painted glossy tip. They come in a set of four pairs and are microwave and oven safe up to 350°F.
The chopstick rests are also made of white, high-fire stoneware with a glossy glaze and a fun, curved resting spot for your chopsticks, so your tables and bowls stay clean.
In addition to the Year of the Rabbit Collection, Our Place also has introduced a vibrant new red color for their Always Pan and Perfect Pot, called "Firecracker;” this color is a deep and vibrant red, just like the center of a firecracker's burst.
When it comes to care and use, Our Place recommends hand washing the rice bowls, chopsticks and chopstick rests to preserve the artwork.
All of the items are microwave and oven safe up to 350°F, but the rice bowls should be handled with caution when taking them out of the microwave or oven as they may get hot.
Our Place's Year of the Rabbit Collection and Firecracker color for their Always Pan and Perfect Pot is a perfect way to celebrate Lunar New Year in style; we used the set Our Place gifted me for the first time when my parents visited recently and shared some delicious Thai food from our favorite local spot.
PS: Our tableware is from Our Place, as well!
Take the time to gather around the table with your loved ones, cook and enjoy a delicious meal, be it vegan or not, together. And enjoy the new year with good luck and fortune.
Happy Lunar New Year!
XOXO
